Praying for your family is one way to place the people you love before God while also asking Him to shape your own character toward them. Scripture gives Christians rich themes for praying for spouses, children, parents, and the spiritual health of the home.
Pray for Your Family to Know Christ
The deepest need of every family is reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. Pray that each person will understand the gospel, repent, believe, and grow as a disciple (Romans 10:9–13).
Pray for Marriage
Ask God for sacrificial love, faithfulness, patience, truthful communication, forgiveness, and wisdom. Ephesians 5:21–33 calls Christian marriage toward Christ-shaped love and mutual faithfulness.
Pray for Children
Pray that children will grow in wisdom, character, knowledge of Scripture, healthy relationships, and courage to follow Christ. Ask God to give parents wisdom to teach and model faith consistently (Deuteronomy 6:6–7).
Pray for Peace in the Home
Colossians 3:12–15 points believers toward compassion, kindness, humility, patience, forgiveness, love, and the peace of Christ. These are powerful themes for family prayer because they address both circumstances and character.
A Prayer for the Family
Father, thank You for my family. Draw each of us closer to Jesus Christ. Give us wisdom to speak truth with love, humility to apologize, grace to forgive, and strength to serve one another. Protect our home from influences that pull us away from You. Help us build our decisions on Your Word and make our family a place of prayer, peace, hospitality, and faithful witness. Amen.
