Prayer Warriors
Interceding for the Church, Nation, and World in Prayer
Every move of God in history has been preceded by prayer. Before revival came the intercessors. Before breakthrough came the burden-bearers who refused to stop knocking, seeking, and asking on behalf of others. At CCC Bilehou Oshoffa Miracle Land Parish, that sacred assignment belongs to our Prayer Warriors ministry — a company of believers who have taken seriously the call to “watch and pray” on behalf of the church, the city of Chicago, the nations, and every individual member carrying a burden too heavy to bear alone.
As a parish of the Celestial Church of Christ — a denomination founded in 1947 through the prophetic ministry of Samuel Bilehou Joseph Oshoffa and now spanning more than 100 nations — prayer is not a peripheral activity in our tradition. It is woven into the very identity of who we are. The Prayer Warriors ministry carries that legacy forward at Miracle Land Parish, standing in the gap through fervent, disciplined, Spirit-led intercession.
The Biblical Mandate for Intercession
Scripture is unambiguous about the power and necessity of intercessory prayer. Ezekiel 22:30 records God’s lament: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” This verse is a sobering reminder of what happens when intercessors are absent — and a call to every believer to be found standing when God looks for someone to stand in the gap.
1 Timothy 2:1 instructs that “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” — not only for those within the church, but for leaders, nations, and the wider world. Ephesians 6:12 reminds our Prayer Warriors of the true nature of the battle they engage: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” And James 5:16 assures us that “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” — a promise that fuels the confidence with which our Prayer Warriors approach the throne of grace on behalf of others.
Perhaps the clearest picture of what this ministry embodies comes from Isaiah 62:6-7, where watchmen are set on the walls who “shall never hold their peace day nor night,” giving the Lord no rest until His promises are established. Our Prayer Warriors take this charge personally — understanding themselves not as occasional prayer participants but as spiritual watchmen assigned to a post.
What the Prayer Warriors Ministry Does
The Prayer Warriors ministry is most visibly active during two of our most spiritually significant weekly gatherings: the Thursday New Moon Service, held every first Thursday of the month at 10:00 PM, and the Friday Prophets & Prophetess Service, held at 12:00 noon. The New Moon Service in particular is a time of concentrated intercession as the congregation marks the beginning of a new month in prayer, seeking God’s covering, direction, and provision for the weeks ahead. The Friday prophetic service often flows directly out of the intercessory atmosphere the Prayer Warriors help to cultivate, creating space for prophetic ministration to emerge from a foundation of fervent prayer.
Beyond these anchor services, Prayer Warriors intercede at every regular gathering of the church — the Wednesday Seekers Service, Mercy Day Service, and Power Day Service on Fridays — often arriving early to pray over the sanctuary, the pulpit, the sound system, and the hearts of those who will walk through the doors that day. This “behind the scenes” prayer covering is one of the most under-recognized but essential functions of the ministry: much of what the congregation experiences as a smooth, anointed, Spirit-filled service is the direct fruit of Prayer Warriors who prayed over that gathering long before the first note of music played.
The ministry is also central to seasonal, church-wide prayer initiatives such as the 21 Days of Overflowing Grace, a dedicated season of Scripture, bold declarations, and fervent prayer observed each summer from late June through early July. During such seasons, Prayer Warriors often lead nightly prayer sessions, coordinate prayer chains among the congregation, and model the discipline of daily intercession that the whole church is invited to join.
Additionally, the ministry maintains an active prayer request system for members facing personal trials — illness, financial hardship, marital difficulty, spiritual attack, or family crisis. Requests submitted through the church are taken up by Prayer Warriors in dedicated intercessory sessions, and testimonies of answered prayer are regularly shared to encourage the wider congregation’s faith.
Types of Prayer Practiced Within the Ministry
Members of the Prayer Warriors ministry are trained across several distinct forms of intercessory prayer, each suited to different needs:
Warfare prayer addresses spiritual attack, oppression, and generational strongholds, drawing on the authority believers have in Christ to bind, rebuke, and command spiritual opposition to yield.
Prayer for healing stands on the promises of Scripture — such as James 5:14-15 and Isaiah 53:5 — to intercede for members and their families facing physical or emotional illness, often in coordination with pastoral visitation.
Prayer for deliverance ministers to those bound by addiction, generational curses, or demonic influence, combining fervent intercession with biblical counsel and, where appropriate, pastoral oversight.
Prayer for national and global concerns extends the ministry’s reach beyond the walls of the church, interceding for the United States, for Nigeria, Benin, and other nations connected to the Celestial Church of Christ’s global family, and for peace, justice, and revival across the earth.
Prayer for provision and breakthrough stands with members facing financial hardship, unemployment, housing instability, or other material needs, believing God as Jehovah Jireh, the Provider.
Who the Prayer Warriors Ministry Is For
This ministry is open to any believer who senses a call to intercession — but it especially welcomes those who:
- Feel a persistent burden to pray for others, even when no one has asked them to
- Have a testimony of God’s faithfulness through a season of personal intercession
- Desire to grow in spiritual discipline, fasting, and the practice of extended prayer
- Are willing to be trained in discernment, spiritual warfare, and biblical intercession
- Can commit to regular attendance at prayer gatherings, particularly the Thursday New Moon Service
No prior experience in formal intercessory ministry is required — only a willing and teachable heart. Many of our most committed Prayer Warriors began simply by attending a New Moon Service out of curiosity and found themselves drawn into a lifelong calling.
A Night in the Life of a Prayer Warrior
The rhythm of the New Moon Service illustrates the heartbeat of this ministry well. As the appointed Thursday approaches, Prayer Warriors often begin personal preparation days in advance — through fasting, personal repentance, and setting aside specific requests to bring before the Lord corporately. On the night itself, the ministry gathers ahead of the official 10:00 PM start to consecrate the space in prayer, often continuing well past midnight as the Spirit leads.
During the service, Prayer Warriors lead the congregation through structured intercession — prayers of thanksgiving, repentance, warfare, and petition — while remaining sensitive to specific burdens that surface in the room. It is not unusual for a Prayer Warrior to sense a specific direction for prayer that speaks directly into a testimony shared moments later, a confirmation of the Holy Spirit’s leading that strengthens the whole congregation’s faith in the power of united prayer.
Growing as an Intercessor
The Prayer Warriors ministry is committed to developing every member’s capacity for deeper, more effective prayer over time. New members typically begin by joining corporate prayer sessions and observing seasoned intercessors. As comfort and confidence grow, members are invited to lead specific segments of prayer, take responsibility for particular prayer requests, and eventually mentor newer Prayer Warriors joining the ministry.
For those with a strong calling toward this ministry, pathways exist toward coordinating specific prayer initiatives, leading fasting programs, and working closely with pastoral leadership on the spiritual covering of major church events and services.
The Impact of Intercession on the Church
Members of Miracle Land Parish consistently testify to breakthroughs directly connected to the intercession of the Prayer Warriors ministry — healed bodies, restored marriages, resolved immigration matters, answered prayers for employment, and deliverance from long-standing spiritual bondage. Beyond individual testimonies, the ministry’s faithful, consistent intercession is widely credited within the congregation as a covering over the entire parish, protecting the church’s unity, its leadership, and its mission as it continues to grow in Chicago.
Fasting and Personal Spiritual Discipline
Intercession at the level our Prayer Warriors are called to sustain does not happen in a vacuum — it flows out of consistent, private spiritual discipline cultivated between corporate gatherings. Fasting holds a central place in this discipline. Drawing on the pattern set by Jesus Himself in Matthew 4:2 and the corporate fasts recorded throughout Scripture, such as Esther 4:16 and Joel 2:12, Prayer Warriors are taught to fast regularly — whether a single meal, a full day, or an extended period — as a means of sharpening spiritual sensitivity and demonstrating earnest dependence on God rather than in one’s own strength.
Personal devotion outside of scheduled prayer gatherings is equally emphasized. Members are encouraged to maintain a consistent daily prayer life, engage regularly with Scripture, and keep a personal prayer journal tracking specific requests and the testimonies of answered prayer that follow — a practice that builds both personal faith and a growing record of God’s faithfulness that can encourage others facing similar battles.
This combination of private discipline and corporate gathering is what distinguishes a true intercessor from someone who simply attends prayer meetings. The ministry’s leadership regularly checks in with members not merely about attendance, but about the health and consistency of their personal walk with God — recognizing that the effectiveness of corporate intercession depends directly on the spiritual depth each individual Prayer Warrior brings into the room.

A Legacy of Intercession
The Prayer Warriors ministry does not exist in isolation from the broader history of the Celestial Church of Christ, a movement whose very founding in 1947 was marked by prophetic prayer and divine encounter. Just as the earliest generation of the church leaned wholly on intercession to establish and sustain a movement that would eventually span more than 100 nations, the Prayer Warriors at Miracle Land Parish see themselves as stewards of that same legacy in the specific context of Chicago in the twenty-first century.
This sense of legacy shapes how the ministry trains its newest members — not simply teaching techniques of prayer, but instilling a conviction that intercession is a generational trust, passed from the founders of this movement to every congregation and every Prayer Warrior who takes up the mantle today. New members are often paired with more seasoned intercessors specifically so this sense of spiritual inheritance can be transmitted personally, not merely taught abstractly.
