Salvation is at the center of the Christian gospel. The Bible teaches that humanity is separated from God by sin, that we cannot rescue ourselves by religious effort, and that God has acted in grace through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Why Do We Need Salvation?
Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Sin is more than individual mistakes; it is rebellion against the holy God and produces spiritual death (Romans 6:23).
What Has God Done Through Jesus?
God’s answer is not self-improvement but Christ. Jesus lived in obedience, died for sinners, and rose again. Romans 5:8 declares that God demonstrates His love in Christ dying for us while we were sinners. First Corinthians 15:3–4 places Christ’s death and resurrection at the heart of the gospel.
Salvation Is by Grace
Ephesians 2:8–10 teaches that salvation is by grace through faith, not a human achievement. Good works are the fruit of a saved life, not the price paid to obtain salvation.
How Should We Respond?
Jesus calls people to repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15). Repentance means turning from sin toward God. Faith means trusting Jesus Christ—who He is and what He has accomplished—rather than trusting ourselves.
What Happens When Someone Believes?
Scripture describes forgiveness, justification, reconciliation with God, adoption into His family, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and a new life of discipleship. Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
A Prayer of Response
Father, I confess that I have sinned and cannot save myself. I believe Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose again. I turn from sin and place my trust in Christ. Forgive me, make me new, and teach me to follow Jesus faithfully. Amen.
