Church attendance is not what saves a person, yet the New Testament does not picture healthy Christianity as an isolated life. Believers are joined to Christ and also brought into a community where they worship, learn, serve, and encourage one another.
1. To Worship God Together
Corporate worship allows believers to praise God as a community and remember that Christian faith is larger than individual experience.
2. To Hear and Learn Scripture
Acts 2:42 describes the early church devoted to the apostles’ teaching. Faithful churches help people understand Scripture and apply it responsibly.
3. To Pray With Other Believers
The church prayed together in times of mission, difficulty, and decision. Shared prayer reminds Christians that burdens do not have to be carried alone.
4. To Encourage One Another
Hebrews 10:24–25 tells believers to consider how to stir one another toward love and good works and not neglect meeting together.
5. To Use Spiritual Gifts in Service
First Peter 4:10 teaches believers to use their gifts to serve one another. Church is not merely an audience; it is a body in which members contribute.
6. To Grow Through Accountability
Christian community provides relationships where believers can receive encouragement, correction, wisdom, and care.
7. To Participate in God’s Mission
Churches proclaim the gospel, disciple believers, care for people in need, and serve their communities.
